About

I’m a software developer. That’s about all there is to it. I’ve been working with Java on the server side of webapps since March of 2000.  I’ve worked in all aspects of the product from database design and ORM mapping through the services and business layer and up to JSP and into Javascript and HTML.  I prefer to spend my time in the java side and leave the Javascript/HTML to someone that can make it look pretty.

I’ve used Hibernate and JPA 2, Ant and Maven, Spring and Guice (barely), JSF and Spring MVC, Oracle and Postgres, portlets and webapps, linux, windows and macOS.  I’ve worked in organizations with several hundred developers, and another with 2 developers.

I’m currently employed full time by a large internet retailer and moonlighting trying to get a small start-up off the ground.

I’m happily married with children and I love spending time with all of them. I am a black belt in AKKI Kenpo and attend and teach classes at Arrowhead Martial Arts.  I also serve actively in my ward as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Over the years, I’ve relied on plenty of other people’s blogs when I’ve been stuck on a technical problem at work.  My hope is that with this blog, I can give back a little bit.
